Ann Arbor, MI - October 2007
Danielle, OVOW Student Spokesperson, has been invited by Lisa Treumuth of the University of Michigan RESULTS organization, to speak at the rally to Stand Up Against Poverty.
On October 17th, people all over the world will be standing up against global poverty to create the largest mobilization in history and to support the UN Millenium Development Goals. In 2000, all UN member countries agreed to commit to achieving the MDGs by 2015. The MDGs include:
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- Achieve universal primary education
- Promote gender equality and empower women
- Reduce child mortality
- Improve maternal health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Develop a global partnership for development
Last year, 23.5 MILLION PEOPLE stood up around the world to set a new Guinness World Record and urge leaders to keep their promise to achieve the MDGs. We hope to continue the tradition of STANDING UP until the MDG's have been successfully accomplished!
The event begins at 6pm at Mason Hall and continues at 7pm for the RALLY ON THE DIAG. We hope to see you there! For more information please see flyer.
